Africa produces mostly black tea with the exception of
Rooibos and Honey Bush teas
which have no botanical relation to Camellia Sinesis, the tea plant .
Kenya , the largest producer of tea in Africa ,
in 1997 became the # 1 exporter, surpassing India and Sri Lanka .
Due to the tropical climate tea is picked every 17 days , year around.
Tea auctions are held in Mombasa attracting some of the
biggest names in tea industry. Kenya produces mostly black tea
( CTC grade ) that is found in many tea blends . Kenyan teas are very
earthy - strong .A good grade of tea makes an excellent cup of tea
even when the tea is steeped beyond recommendations .

There are two rainy seasons in Kenya - April - May and October -
November . March is the driest month and July the coldest .
Malawi and Zimbabwe with warm rich soil and high altitude
also produce superb tea.Simmilar to Kenya’s tea, but different in flavor and aroma. Irland is the largest imprter of African
teas . Everyone in U.S is familiar with African coffees yet very few

India is still the largest producer but most of the tea
